Thank you to all of you who have prayed for the things that we mentioned in our last prayer letter almost 3 weeks ago. This is a (hopefully) brief update on how God is answering your prayers!
We mentioned a couple who accepted a Bible and who came back to ask lots of questions. They now say that they believe and want to be baptised. We will meet this Saturday to look at some more passages in the Bible together to be sure that they are clear on what following Jesus means. Last week the wife asked where she could buy a cross for her husband to wear. She wanted me to pray over it so that it would protect him (people commonly wear amulets from temples for protection here). Naturally I had to gently explain that I could not do that and why. Pray for Mr. and Mrs. Chen and their 2 young boys.
We had a long meeting with our coworkers to discuss when to start regular Sunday meetings. We are starting soon, November 9th! We also decided to call the church, “God’s Love Church”. I think that it sounds better in Chinese: 主愛教會. Our mission is to “Live Out God’s Love” (also sounds better in Chinese: 活出主愛). Our church exists because of God’s love, and we also exist to show His love to others. So now we are busy planning and preparing for this start. Praise God for supplying our house to meet in and all of the “stuff” we need for the ministry center on the first and second floors. For example, a friend just donated 20 very good quality stacking chairs that he had in storage from a restaurant that he used to run. He is not yet a Christian, but told us that he and his wife will come to our opening service to “swell the crowd”. His daughter and son-in-law are the couple mentioned above who say they have believed.
OMF Field Conference was very good and the children’s program went well. The church team that came to help with the children’s program was made up mostly of retirees and they had a great time with the kids. Ruth enjoyed working with them and feels that she got to know a lot of our newer OMF kids a lot better.
One last thing... At a meeting on Sunday our former church, Jiacheng Church, in Dashe, decided to explore merging with another small church in Dashe (I, David, have been mentoring the pastor there). They have asked me to help supervise their discussions. We hope that they might merge as early as January some time. Do please pray for wisdom and God’s clear leading in this.
With thanks and love from Taiwan,
David and Ruth
